Frescohallen, Bergen
The history of Bergen can be clearly seen in the panels of the former exchange building, painted by Axel Revold. The building now carries the appropriate name "Frescohallen" with the growth and development of the shipping industry, trade and manufacturing shown brightly on the walls. It is clear that Bergen was long an important Norwegian trade centre. Making the wall paintings was not without a struggle as there were hostile reactions to Revold's powerful compositions and cubist painting style. But the supporters won and thanks to them visitors can now enjoy an excellent spectacle of art and colour. Axel Revold was given the assignment in 1918 and completed the ten panels four years later.

Wachau cultural landscape
The Wachau in Austria is an important and valuable cultural landscape. The area along the river Danube is around 33 km long. Ruins, castles, small villages, woods and vineyards form the distinguishing features. The Wachau lies 80 kilometers to the west of Vienna and is on the World Heritage List since 2000. The Wachau is a valley of the Danube and runs from the picturesque town of Melk to the city of Krems. Dürnstein is one of the most appealing places of the area. See the number of visitors that set foot here, and you realise that it is never quiet. But the Wachau is more than just a hit and run area and however beautiful Dürnstein, there is a lot more to do in the valley, for example on the other side of the Danube.

Lapland
In Arvidsjaur there is a Lappstaden, a place that the Sámi still use on feast days. These are forest Sámi, who tend their reindeer in the hilly wooded meadows of Lapland. The Sámi are distributed over four countries: Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. They do not know any political boundaries and call their country Sápmi. Sámi used to live in a "Sijdda". A number of families shared an area, where they fished, hunted or kept reindeer. The head of the family usually decided who got which piece of land and water. Sometimes the Sámi herdsmen still use sod huts, easy using the materials that can be found in the surroundings. or they set up a "Goathe" -- a lightweight tent- at the edge of a lake.

Semmering Railway
Early in the 19th century, the need was recognised for a railway through the picturesque Semmering area, nicknamed "Zauberberg". Until then people had to cross this area by foot or stage-coach. Building the railway cost over a thousand lives, mainly deaths from typhoid and cholera. The daredevils of the mountain railway pioneers have built 16 viaducts, 15 tunnels, 129 bridges and 142 special structures. The old Semmering became a resort with hotels and villas. The railway made it possible for hundreds of people at a time to visit the resort. The Semmering Railway or Ghega line follows a beautiful route through the Austrian Alps. Built between 1848 and 1854, the railway represented a triumph of civil engineering for the time. Officially designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Site, this site is to be safeguarded for the future as a testimony to its enduring past. Looking for broadcast footage? Don't shoot!
